About Dave Koz
Move over, Kenny G! The latest saxophone sensation, a Mr. Dave Koz, is stirring up instrumental fans everywhere. Koz, who has been rocking the saxophone for a whopping 25 years, is releasing a star-studded anniversary album that’s sure to knock your socks off. But how did this fast-fingered saxophonist get his start, and how has he risen to fame that has allowed him to work with such artists as Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles?
Born in the sunny city of Los Angeles, Koz was the younger of two siblings and often idolized his older brother, who had his own band. Koz wanted to be part of his brother’s band so badly that he took up the saxophone just to get in. It soon became apparent that Koz had a real talent for the saxophone, and after graduating college at UCLA, he quickly signed on to a band tour with singer Bobby Caldwell. From there, it wasn’t long before he had an impressive list of collaborations with famous artists, and Koz signed his first solo record contract with Capital Records in 1990.
The Popularity Heats up for Dave Koz
Several records followed, including several holiday albums such as December Makes Me Feel This Way and Dave Koz & Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas, which were released in the late 90s and early 2000s. Koz also made several albums rehashing classic hits from movies, singers and childhood melodies, and he has won no less than two Grammy awards and has been nominated many times. He was even able to co-host “The David Koz Morning Show” on an Los Angeles jazz station from 2001 to 2007. He also hosted an afternoon radio broadcast for Broadcast Architecture’s Smooth Jazz Network in 2006 while still juggling the morning show for 94.7 The Wave.
Koz’s long list of collaborations also includes a stint as bandleader on “The Emeril Lagasse Show,” as well as his annual Dave Koz & Friends At Sea cruise. Koz and his guests of honor entertain cruise-goers with the sweet sounds of smooth jazz, and his upcoming cruise through the Caribbean is already fully booked for 2016. As if all of this wasn’t enough, Koz has also partnered with Seal Beach’s Spaghettini to open his own restaurant called the “Spaghettini & The David Koz Lounge” in Beverly Hills, CA. Koz currently has a radio show on SiriusXM called “The David Koz Lounge,” along with his own 24-hour radio station aptly named “Dave Koz & Friends Radio.”
Dave Koz Achievements Stack Up
To top it all off, Koz has founded Rendezvous Entertainment and has several philanthropic endeavors, namely Koz Wines, which has helped fund the Starlight Children’s Foundation for whom Koz has been global ambassador going on 20 years. Through all this, Koz has continued to produce chart-topping hits. Funnily enough, he has actually worked with friendly rival Kenny G on his 2014 Christmas album The 25th of December, which also features legends Gloria Estefan and Stevie Wonder.
